Home Visits

Home Visits are scheduled for Feb. 26th (afternoon only), 28th, and March 1st. A sign –up sheet will be posted in the hall.  We will be talking about kindergarten and sharing information about round-up with families and doing a fun activity with children.

Valentine’s Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day will a special treat but will not be having a party.  If your child wants to share Valentine cards with their classmates, please have them sign their own name but do not put a “to” name on.  This will make it easier for your child to pass out their cards.

Data Review Meeting

Our data review meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 8:30 am.  It should take about a half hour.  Please plan to attend if you are able.  This is a requirement of our grant.

Fun Things to Do

  • Create a blanket fort together.  Throw some blankets over the table or between chairs spread apart. Then curl up inside with some of your child’s favorite books.  Have fun reading together. Talk about the stories as you read.
  • Identify shapes in your home. Play a simple game of finding basic shapes around the home, such as rectangles in light switches, squares in windowpanes, circles in clocks, and so forth. Talk about the defining features (for example, a triangle has three connected sides).
  • Rhyming Riddles: Make up riddles and guessing games using words that rhyme or words that start with the same sounds. For example, “What kind of cake would a snake make? He might make a lake cake.” The rhymes can be silly and fun and will get your child thinking about words and listening for rhymes.

Snow Days and Make-Up Days

We have had 8 snow days already this winter! Our calendar has some extra days built in to cover snow days.  However, with so many we may need to make a few days up to meet our 120 day requirement.  A final decision will be made in the spring but I wanted to let you know of the possibility.

Rotating Homeless Shelter

The Church is hosting the Rotating Homeless Shelter Feb. 3rd-10th.  People using the shelter will arrive in the evening after children have left for the day.  They will be gone in the morning before children arrive at school.

Outside Play & Warm Clothes

Keep sending winter outdoor gear.  Children are having lots of fun playing in the snow! Many children still need practice dressing themselves. The more practice they get doing this at home and school the quicker they will master this skill. Our routine is 1st snow pants, 2nd boots, 3rd coats, 4th hat and 5th gloves or mittens. Teachers help with the hard stuff like zipping coats or getting the last mitten on.
